A very nice windier-than-expected bank holiday sunday session at shoreham.
I arrived 2pm to find the tide right up and 4 or 5 people out planing
solidly on 5.7-6.0 sails. I thought I should really play safe and rig the
5.8 but it felt decently windy to me so I made the bold move of putting up
the 5.2.
Correct decision! The wind gradually picked up throughout the afternoon and
with downhaul adjustments I was just right for the whole session on my
chosen rig. In fact by 6pm I could have been on my 4.5 quite easily, but
with max downhaul it was good fun being proper stacked on the 5.2.
The sailing was a bit crap at the start due to high tide lumpiness, and
after a couple of hours of lump-bumping I was tired and thinking about
packing up. But with the tide on the drop the conditions were improving, so
I took a break to refuel instead of going home. Glad I did - by the time
I'd re-launched, the tide had receded nicely so that the water state was
now much less choppy, plus it was windier! Meaning that the last 2 hours
were excellent - sunny, fully powered, all good! Not much in the way of
waves/ramps but great fun all the same.
Windy again tomorrow so thinking about a morning sesh before high tide, to
allow time for packing for...Moroccocococo!!!
